Publication Ethics

The Editorial Board of Studia Chopinowskie is responsible for all materials published in the journal.

The Editors are committed to the continuous improvement of the journal and, in particular:
a) to make every effort to meet the expectations of readers and authors;
b) to ensure that decisions regarding the acceptance or rejection of manuscripts are made free from any conflicts of interest and that reviewers selected to evaluate submitted manuscripts are impartial;
c) to ensure that the peer-review process is conducted in accordance with the journal's published peer-review procedures and the guidelines of the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE);
d) to maintain a high standard of the scholarly content published in the journal;
e) to uphold the principle of freedom of academic expression;
f) to issue corrections, clarifications, or apologies whenever necessary.

Editorial decisions regarding the acceptance or rejection of manuscripts shall be based exclusively on the scholarly significance, originality, clarity, and relevance of the submission to the scope of the journal. The Editorial Board is also committed to responding, in accordance with COPE guidelines, to any instances of research misconduct or unethical behaviour involving authors, reviewers, or any other individuals engaged in the publication process.

Authors

Authors submitting manuscripts to Studia Chopinowskie:
a) warrant that the submitted manuscript is original, does not infringe the copyright or other intellectual property rights of third parties, has not been published previously, and is not under consideration for publication elsewhere;
b) are required to disclose all sources of funding and acknowledge the contributions of institutions or other entities that supported the research or preparation of the manuscript;
c) are expected to cooperate with the Editorial Board and other individuals involved in the publication process, including participating in the revision of the submitted manuscript where necessary;
d) are expected to adhere to the principles of research integrity and publication ethics throughout the entire publication process.

Reviewers

Reviewers of Studia Chopinowskie:

a) are required to disclose any actual or potential conflicts of interest that may affect their evaluation of a submitted manuscript;
b) must maintain the confidentiality of all materials and information received throughout the peer-review process;
c) are expected to prepare their reviews in accordance with the criteria and scope specified by the Editorial Board in the review form and to conclude their assessment with a clear recommendation regarding the publication of the manuscript;
d) should avoid subjective, personal, or inappropriate remarks;
e) must immediately notify the Editorial Board of any suspected research misconduct, plagiarism, ethical violations, or other irregularities identified in the manuscript under review;
f) must not use or exploit the content of manuscripts under review for their own research or any other personal or professional purposes.

Use of Generative AI

Generative artificial intelligence and AI-assisted tools may be used during manuscript preparation solely to improve language, style, and readability. This policy does not apply to the use of AI in data analysis or research methodology. Authors must carefully review, verify, and edit any AI-assisted output. They remain fully responsible for the accuracy, reliability, originality, and integrity of the final manuscript. Any use of AI or AI-assisted tools must be disclosed in the manuscript; an appropriate statement will be included in the submitted article. AI tools must not be listed as authors or co-authors, nor cited as authors, as authorship responsibilities can only be fulfilled by human contributors.

Conflicts of Interest

Authors, reviewers, and editors are required to disclose any circumstances that may affect, or be perceived to affect, their impartiality, including financial, professional, institutional, or personal relationships.

Where a conflict of interest exists, the Editorial Board will take appropriate measures to ensure the integrity, impartiality, and fairness of the editorial and peer-review process.

Complaints and Appeals

The Editorial Board considers complaints concerning the editorial process, peer review, and alleged breaches of publication ethics in a fair, impartial, and confidential manner.

Complaints should be submitted to the Editorial Office at: studiachopinowskie@nifc.pl.

The Editorial Board will acknowledge receipt of the complaint and provide a written response outlining the outcome of the investigation within a reasonable period, normally no later than 30 days after receiving the complaint.

All complaints and appeals are handled in accordance with the guidelines and flowcharts of the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE).

Dealing with Allegations of Research Misconduct

The Editorial Board of Studia Chopinowskie investigates all allegations of research misconduct in accordance with the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE) Core Practices and Flowcharts and the principles of the Committee on Ethics in Science of the Polish Academy of Sciences.

All allegations are handled confidentially, impartially, and with due diligence. Editorial decisions are based on the available evidence and made with respect for the rights of all parties involved.

The Editorial Board may investigate allegations concerning, among others:
– plagiarism or self-plagiarism;
– fabrication or falsification of research data;
– redundant or duplicate publication;
– inappropriate authorship practices, including ghost, guest, or gift authorship;
– undisclosed conflicts of interest;
– any other breaches of research integrity or publication ethics.

Depending on the nature and severity of the misconduct, the Editorial Board may request clarification or corrections from the author(s), reject a submitted manuscript, publish a correction or retraction of a published article, or, where appropriate, notify the relevant research institution.

All cases are handled in accordance with the relevant COPE Flowcharts and internationally accepted standards of publication ethics.

Corrections and Retractions

If errors or breaches of publication ethics are identified after publication, the Editorial Board may publish an erratum, correction (corrigendum), expression of concern, or retraction, as appropriate.
