Magdalena Dziadek, born in 1961, in Bielsko-Biała, completed studies in music theory at Katowice Academy of Music (diploma with distinction, 1984). In 1991, at the Institute of Art of the Polish Academy of Sciences in Warsaw, she defended a doctoral dissertation on music criticism between 1810 and 1890. In 2004 she completed a post-doctoral course at the same institute. Since 1992 she has pursued independent academic research, focussing on the history of musical culture in the nineteenth century and the first half of the twentieth century in Poland and Central Europe. She has published a two-part monograph of Polish music criticism between 1890 and 1914 (2002), a collection of source materials relating to the reception of Chopin’s music in Poland in the nineteenth century and in Poland and Germany between the wars, a two-volume monograph of the history of the university of music in Warsaw, and also several other books devoted to the history of Polish musical culture (recently the monograph Podróż przez dźwięki. Śladami Stanisława Moniuszki [A journey through sounds: on the trail of Stanisław Moniuszko] (2020), the fruits of her work – together with Prof. Radosław Okulicz-Kozaryn – on a new complete edition of the composer’s correspondence). She is a professor of the Institute of Musicology of the Jagiellonian University of Kraków.

Radosław Okulicz-Kozaryn, professor, on the staff of the School of Positivist and Young Poland Literature at the Institute of Polish Philology of the Adam Mickiewicz University of Poznań (AMU), an associate scholar of the AMU’s School of Baltic Studies; he recently published a volume of sketches on literature around the turn of the twentieth century, Tropami bractwa wielkiego dzwonu [On the trail of the Fellowship of the Big Bell] (2020; with Małgorzata Okulicz-Kozaryn), the anthology Estetyka „zdrowego rozsądku”? [The aesthetics of ‘common sense’?] (2020; with Tadeusz Budrewicz) and, as co-editor, the collections of articles Oddźwięki – odbicia – odcienie. Wiek XIX wobec sztuk [Responses, reflections and nuances: the nineteenth century and art] (2020) and Wykrzesać pokrewieństwo burzy. Drogi Jana Kasprowicza do wielkości [Mustering the kinship of the storm: Jan Kasprowicz’s path to greatness] (2021), prepared for publication the correspondence of Mikalojus Konstantinas Čiurlionis (vol. 1, Kaunas 2019, with Nijolė Adomavičienė and Petras Kimbrys; vol. 2 forthcoming) and the anthology Czasy wytrwale poetyckie. Wiersze z prasy lat 1864–1894 [Tenaciously poetical times: poems from the press 1864–1894] (https://pnamc.ehum.psnc.pl/pnamc/p/antologia.html) – as part of the grant ‘Poetry on the margins of civilisation’, funded by the National Programme for the Development of Humanities (with Katarzyna Kościewicz and Dawid M.
